The EPCOT Wonders of Life pavilion featured the Wonder Cycles, stationary bikes with an attached CRT touch screen. Guests could chose from a few different places to take a bike ride, and then the video would speed up or slow down depending on how fast they pedaled. Try to imagine, just for a moment… These two restored 8mm videos feature the Living Seas pavilion. First up is the preshow, which guests would see before entering the larger theater. Video: Universe of Energy Preshow (1991)

The original Universe of Energy Preshow featured a unique presentation with a screen made up of rotating tiles. This huge mosaic changed each tile in sync with the projection being shown and was invented by Czech film director Emil Radok. Restored home movie: Imagineering Lab at Epcot

The Walt Disney Imagineering Labs was an exhibit in Inventions at Epcot. The brief live show showed guests how 3D computer animation was created, with a focus on a virtual reality experience featuring Aladdin. “DisneyVision” was a state of the art virtual reality technology that would eventually lead to the Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride attraction at DisneyQuest.Read More...

Restored home video: Magical World of Barbie – 1994

As part of a sponsorship agreement with toy company Mattel, Barbie came to Epcot’s American Gardens theater in World Showcase in late 1993. The half hour show followed Barbie as she traveled around to different playsets all over the world, and ran for about a year and a half in front of the American Adventure pavilion.Read More...

Take a quick tour through CommuniCore East in this video from 1992. Included are glimpses of the population counter kinetic sculpture with the Great American Census Quiz game played on the computers below. The interactive Computer-a-Coaster exhibit let guests design their own rollercoaster using a touch screen, and the trivia-asking robot, SMRT-1, was a favorite of guests using early speech recognition technology.Read More...
