Podcast Episode 70: Monster Sound Show

This month, we take you back to the early days of the Disney-MGM Studios. When the park first opened, it was mostly shows and attraction-based with less emphasis on rides. You may have noticed before we got to the main topic here, but this episode sounds a little bit different. We are recording in and this adds an amazingly fun layer to this episode, which is all about sound. Todd starts us off with our old…Read More...

Podcast Episode 68: Magic Journeys

This month, we take you back to EPCOT Center and as far back as opening day. Magic Journeys: This is one of those short-lived attractions that most have not seen, but if you did, you get it. This was extremely high tech, advanced and the effort level that went into this is absolutely insane. Todd takes the lead, giving us a bit of history and why this whole thing came about. We hear from Murray Lerner,…Read More...

EPCOT Center 1980s Super8 Film with Sound

Attending EPCOT back in the 80s just seems to match up perfectly with a VHS camcorder, not film. The film footage we usually get is from the Magic Kingdom and resort areas in the 1970s. This one though has our cameraman bringing the old Super8 into EPCOT Center. We are not sure on the year, but we found it is roughly 83/84 based on the construction of some different things, mostly Morocco. There is some footage...Read More...

Early 1980s Magic Kingdom Super8 Film w/Sound

This one will take you back to a time period right before the VHS camcorder became the standard. We begin at the Ticket/Transportation Center with some super clean ferry boat shots. The sound isn’t the greatest on this transfer, but having sound with film is a somewhat rare treat. We see some various resorts, the monorail, Cinderella’s Castle, 80s Tomorrowland and quite a few various shots. The footage is fairly clean, giving you some little details...Read More...

Communicore East and West Home Video – 1980s

With the release of last weeks podcast episode (Ep 38 Communicore East) we figured it was as good a time as any to dig up some of Todd’s Communicore West footage from 1986. As we were about to do that we got an email from the Dworsky Family of Texas stating that they had Communicore East footage from 1989. We put the two together in the following video that will take you back when touch screens...Read More...

A Dream Called Walt Disney World VHS

This video caught my eye a few months back on eBay.  It was cheap enough, so I figured why not?  I bought it and ripped it to my computer.  This one really captures that old, gritty feel that some of the old pictures on the site have.  For some reason, I always have this impression that Disney World back in the 70s and 80s was yellowed out and orange colored everywhere, just like the discolored photographs. ...Read More...
