Magic Kingdom – 1971 Home Movie

We have lucked out by continuing to discover films taken in Walt Disney World’s first weeks of operation. This film from November 1971 begins with passenger boarding the ill-fated original trams (which overheated and could not handle the heavy passenger load). We get a very nice early glimpse at the Ticket & Transportation Center and the Southern Seas sidewheeler loading and carrying passengers to the Magic Kingdom.

Main Street and Town Square are busy with vehicles, trolleys and guests. Cinderella Castle still has that new Castle smell. We see the street band playing in Fantasyland and 20K lagoon looking new and spiffy. Flimpses of Fanatasyland, Adventureland and the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse are next.

We return to Fantasyland and a view from the castle arch before boarding the Liberty Square Riverboat and then meeting some characters at the park entrance. The film closes with some distant views of the Magic Kingdom from across Bay Lake.

Great video! Finally a few seconds of the Osceolas (“sidewheelers”) being shown!
Minor correction: The last shot showing the Magic Kingdom from the water is *NOT* being pictured from Bay Lake. It’s Seven Seas Lagoon. Otherwise, keep them coming!
