We have lucked out by continuing to discover films taken in Walt Disney World’s first weeks of operation. This film from November 1971 begins with passengers boarding the ill-fated original trams (which overheated and could not handle the heavy passenger load). We get a very nice early glimpse at the Transportation & Ticket Center and the Southern Seas sidewheeler loading and carrying passengers to the Magic Kingdom.
Main Street and Town Square are busy with vehicles, trolleys, and guests. Cinderella Castle still has that new Castle smell. We see the street band playing in Fantasyland and 20K lagoon looking new and spiffy. Glimpses of Fantasyland, Adventureland, and the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse is next.
We return to Fantasyland and a view from the castle arch before boarding the Liberty Square Riverboat and then meeting some characters at the park entrance. The film closes with some distant views of the Magic Kingdom from across Bay Lake.
